Weekly Warm Up No. 60
Greetings WWUs.
I hope you are all settling comfortably into the New Year.
One new thing I’d like to share with you all this week:
Killyjoy
Before everything became wobbly with the pandemic, I commissioned my friend and colleague, Gene Koshinski, to write piece for guitar and percussion inspired by a story (in this case the Disney adaptation of Cinderella). We premiered Killjoy in the spring of 2019, recorded it in the fall of 2019 and then….everything slowed down.
The three movements of Killjoy explore the sounds of clocks, utilizing their musical value as a starting point. In essence, the work is a collection of variations on themes provided by various clocks where, in many cases, the “theme” is never actually stated.
We just published the final video installment of the three movement work this week and I wanted to share all three with you:
I. Tick Tock
II. Lullaby for Jett
III. Clockwork
We’re really happy to be reaching the finish line with this part of the project. It’s been a journey.
