I was reading through Hilary Hahn‘s Instagram this morning and this caption struck me:
There are parts that you can “just do,” when learning something new:
And then there are parts that you have to think about a bit more.
It can feel like a slow crawl working through a passage.
It reminds of these long car rides I used to make to visit my father (3 hours each way). When you’re 6 that feels like an eternity. What comes next? Will this end? Can we get a snack?
Eventually, you arrive.
Today felt like that for me. Still, the gradual, incremental progress gives you time to listen. For me, I’m hearing how the chords want to overshadow the melodic figure in the bass. Balance of melody vs accompaniment.
“Some days playing the guitar feels weird.”
See you tomorrow.
